Stepping Stones has served McLean County survivors for over two decades and serves as the only central sexual assault resource center in our community with a 24-hour crisis hotline available 7 days a week, 365 days a year, free counseling & advocacy services, and prevention education in public schools & with community partners.

    1975

    Established in 1908, YWCA McLean County moves into its current-day Hershey Road location. 

  • Mar 2, 2023

    1990

    YWCA McLean County undergoes its first renovation, adding more than 17,000 square feet to the facility. New areas include the Community Room, 2 additional gym courts, fitness rooms and Young Wonders classrooms.

    2000

    The Hershey Road facility undergoes its second renovation, adding another 10,904 square feet in the form of 3 Young Wonders classrooms and 2 fitness studios.

    YWCA Stepping Stones takes its first hotline call.

    2011

    YWCA McLean County ceases to provide health & fitness services. Lifeguard offices and break rooms become Stepping Stones advocate offices and counseling rooms and locker rooms become our hotline center.

    2013

    Erin's Law takes effect, requiring all public K-12 schools implement a prevention-oriented child sexual abuse program. Stepping Stones hires additional staff to accommodate the legislation.

    2022

    Stepping Stones opens counseling offices on the west side of Bloomington, increasing accessibility to our services.

    2023

    Stepping Stones launches a campaign for a critical expansion. After doing the best we can with the space we have for as long as possible, additional, centrally located space is necessary as counselors do not have space to take walk-ins and noise machines sit outside doors to increase confidentiality.
