This position is responsible for planning and implementing an after school program for children with disabilities. This program is a pilot and will determine how future programs run. Specific students are yet to be determined, so the individual must be willing to accommodate any child’s needs. Adequate training will be provided from the school district and other organizations, but this person should have the ability to take on a challenge and adjust accordingly. This teacher is responsible for planning activities, serving meals, communicating with the families and other personnel in the child’s life, and carrying out the objectives of the pilot program. This person will need to be knowledgeable of DCFS regulations.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Must meet the DCFS qualifications for Teacher, including:
- 30 semester hours of credit from an accredited college or university with 6 semester hours related to school-age child care, child development, elementary education, physical education, recreation, camping or other related fields.
- OR 1560 clock hours of experience in a recreational program or licensed day care center serving school-age children or license exempt school-age child care program operated by a public or private school and either 6 semester hours of credit from an accredited college or university related to school-age child care, child development, elementary education, physical education, recreation, camping or other related fields.
- OR a high school diploma or equivalency certificate plus 3120 clock hours of experience in a recreational program, kindergarten, or licensed day care center serving school-age children or a license exempt school-age child care program operated by a public or private school.
- Must have an Associate’s degree, and at least twelve hours in educated related coursework.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Must have experience teaching children with special needs.
- Excellent communication and classroom management skills.
